Call summary
The Medical Research Council invites applications for its environmental sustainability in life sciences and medical practice call. This supports research environmental sustainability in life science and medical practice. Applications should show how they will support net zero carbon aspirations and seek to improve MRC’s understanding or provide practical solutions. The total fund £1 million and grants are worth up to £100,000 each at 80 per cent full economic costs for up to 12 months. Studies focused on facilities management and travel arrangements will not be funded.
Scientific scope
Proposals should focus on achieving some or all of the following:
•look at aspects of research and medical practice that are not environmentally sustainable and seek to improve our understanding or provide practical solutions;
•consider the ongoing impacts associated with the creation of new innovations in medical research;
•engage stakeholders and promote knowledge exchange;
•develop pump-prime initiatives or feasibility studies into promoting sustainable research or medical practice.
PI eligibility
Researchers with an employment contract at an eligible research organisation or that holds a fixed-term contract that extends beyond the duration of the proposed project, and the host research organisation is prepared to give all the support normal for a permanent employee may apply.
