Call summary

The Royal Society, supported by the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, invites nominations for its Rosalind Franklin award and lecture. The award comprises a £1,000 prize and a grant worth up to £40,000 for activities to promote women in STEM in the UK and to support research activities, at least half of which must be spent on implementing the project.

Scientific scope

This recognises an individual’s contribution to any STEM field and supports the promotion of women in STEM in the UK. Physical Sciences and Engineering; Immunology; Public Health, Health Services & Primary Care; Psychology, Psychiatry & Neuroscience; Biological Sciences; Women in Science; Agriculture; Nutrition & Dietetics; Pharmacy & Pharmacology; Soil Sciences

PI eligibility

Nominees must fulfil UK residency requirements, namely have been ordinarily resident in the UK throughout the three-year period preceding the date of application for the award and have not been resident therein wholly or mainly for the purposes of full-time education, during any part of that three-year period. The recipient must be an early career scientists with no more than twenty years since achieving their PhD. Nominees who have taken a career break will also be considered and are encouraged to apply. They should be actively involved in research at a university, other research institution in the public or private sector, or industry. The research must be based in the UK in a scientific or technological discipline within the remit of the Royal Society. Self-nominations are not accepted.
