Call summary

Innovate UK, under its KTN Innovate Exchange programme, invites applications for its novel energy storage for sea and land based applications funding opportunity. This supports the development of a novel rechargeable energy storage system for deployment on-board ships and large land-based vehicles as well as static land-based applications. Solutions should be capable of storing energy from hours to days, and preferably longer, with a quick response time. The energy storage system is required for deployment in transport uses, and as such weight and size should be kept to the minimum possible. Priority is given to modular systems and proposed solutions at a technology readiness level (TRL) of 5 or higher. Consideration may be given to lower TRLs, however, the solution should be close to deployment within a five-year horizon. For promising early-stage technology propositions, consideration may be given to investment in intellectual property to support further research and development. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to pitch their idea to a multi-national company for investment funding, and may also benefit from technical support and guidance as well as opportunities for collaboration.

Scientific scope

Hydrogen & Synthetic Fuels; Power & Energy Systems Engineering; Energy Storage - Batteries & Grid
