Call summary
The Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851 invites applications for its research fellowships in science or engineering. Approximately eight fellowships are available for up to three years, some of which are designated the Brunel fellowship for an engineering project. An additional allowance of £6,000 per year is provided for research associated costs, including equipment, consumables and travel to present at conferences.
Scientific scope
The fellowships are open to candidates intending to conduct research in any of the physical or biological sciences, in mathematics, in applied science or in any branch of engineering. Researchers from the fields of civil, mechanical and aeronautical engineering are particularly encouraged to apply.
PI eligibility
Applicants must hold a recent PhD degree or equivalent qualification, or be in the final stages of their PhD studies, and have no more than three years of postdoctoral experience. PhDs must be completed before the award is confirmed. Fellowships are normally held at UK institutions approved by the commissioners, and the institution may not be the same where the candidate’s PhD research was undertaken.
