Call summary
The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council invites applications for its responsive mode standard research grants. These support curiosity-led research to advance the bioscience portfolio of the council. Projects can range in size up to £2 million and last up to five years.
Scientific scope
Applications are particularly sought under the following priority areas:
•animal health;
•bioenergy – generating new replacement fuels for a greener, sustainable future;
•combating antimicrobial resistance;
•data driven biology;
•food, nutrition and health;
•healthy ageing across the life course;
•integrative microbiome research;
•new strategic approaches to industrial biotechnology;
•reducing waste in the food chain;
•the replacement, refinement and reduction in research using animals;
•sustainably enhancing agricultural production;
•synthetic biology;
•systems approaches to the biosciences;
•technology development for the biosciences;
•welfare of managed animals.
PI eligibility
Applications should be made to the following committees according to the research topic: research committee A evaluates proposals related to animal disease, health and welfare; research committee B evaluates proposals related to plants, microbes, food and sustainability; research committee C evaluates proposals related to genes, development, and science, technology, engineering and mathematics approaches to biology; research committee D evaluates proposals related to molecules, cells and industrial biotechnology.
