Call summary

The Medical Research Council, the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and Innovate UK invite expressions of interest for their early ideas to improve the delivery of nucleic acid therapeutics (NAT) call. This supports a consortium to tackle major barriers to safe and effective NAT delivery through the development of novel technologies, platforms and resources. The grant is worth up to £6 million for three years for one consortium. MRC will support programme costs at 80 per cent of the full economic cost, some exceptions will be considered for support at 100 per cent full economic cost where fully justified.

Scientific scope

Proposals should clearly articulate how the consortium’s outputs will: •have downstream translatability; •demonstrate wide-ranging industrial and academic utility; •improve the reproducibility of early stage research and innovation.

PI eligibility

Projects must be collaborative with at least two UK based organisations, including a minimum of one partner commercially active in the NAT space in the UK. UK based SMEs, academic organisations and public sector organisations may apply as lead organisation. Large industrial organisations and UK catapults may apply as investigators but cannot request funding. Other collaborative partners can be based anywhere in the world.
