Call summary
The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, through QuantIC’s partnership resource fund, invites applications for the accelerated development fund. This enables universities to accelerate innovation in quantum imaging in alignment with industry priorities and societal needs. The total budget is £2 million. Projects worth up to £250,000 will be funded at 80 per cent of the full economic costs for up to two years. Leverage of additional funding and resources in the form of institutional support or industrial support is not essential but is encouraged and will be considered in the evaluation process. Funding for equipment above £10,000 is not allowed. Larger value projects are eligible, but evidence needs to be supplied that sufficient additional funding to cover all project costs has been secured as a contribution from another funding source.
Scientific scope
Lasers & Quantum Optics; Quantum Computing & Technologies. Projects should bring new ideas, whilst clearly demonstrating how they align with and further the hub’s mission and how they integrate with, yet differentiate from, existing pipelines. Projects will address a demonstrable industrial or societal need and will feed the pipeline of technology to be translated into industrial applications and commercial opportunities.
PI eligibility
The principal investigator must be resident in the UK and an academic employee at the lecturer or equivalent level at an eligible organisation, which may be an HEI, a research institute funded by a research council or an independent research organisation. The same criteria applies to co-investigators. Applicants that are currently funded through QuantIC are not eligible to apply.
