Call summary
The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, in partnership with four other research councils, invites applications for its develop basic technologies in sensing and imaging call. This supports the development and application of early-stage technologies in sensors and imaging that will have an impact on UK science, society and the environment. Projects should involve small and short high risk and high reward interdisciplinary pilot studies directed towards the development of basic, underpinning technology where little to no preliminary data exist. The total budget is £2.5 million. Grants are worth up to £225,000 for between six and 18 months.

PI eligibility
Applicants from eligible UK-based organisations, including higher education institutions, eligible independent research organisations, public sector research establishments and UKRI funded labs and facilities may apply. New collaborations and partnerships are encouraged, including across disciplines and sectors. The involvement of private sector partners and international research groups is welcome, though they may not directly receive funding. Projects must involve two co-principal investigators with complementary expertise.
