Call summary

The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) invites applications for its funding to set up a centre for doctoral training (CDT) in data intensive science call. This supports the establishment of a new CDT in data intensive science, with a focus on innovation and knowledge exchange. Students will be expected to undertake an original research project, which takes big data skills and expertise from STFC’s core science remit and applies them to a different sector or industrial setting. Projects should demonstrate their relationship to other STFC and UKRI investments in data intensive science and artificial intelligence. Funding is available for three cohorts of students for a four-year studentship.

Scientific scope

STFC’s remit is: astronomy; accelerator physics; solar and planetary science; particle physics; particle astrophysics and cosmology; nuclear physics.

PI eligibility

Any institution that is in receipt of funding through the STFC core science programme may apply. Furthermore, all lead departments involved must have received accreditation from STFC for their training provision. The institution must partner with industry or the third sector. The student must have a six-month placement there.
