Call summary

The Natural Environement Research Council, the Economic and Social Research Council and Newcastle University, under the UK Energy System programme, invites proposals for the open call for unconventional hydrocarbons. This supports projects that address new research themes that have emerged as the result of the relatively recent changes to the shale gas landscape in the UK. The themes are the role of subsurface decarbonisation of the energy sector and the UK’s net zero future, application of previous research within the programme and building upon this research of public perceptions and acceptance of shale gas in the UK as well as shale gas and environmental security. The total budget is worth £400,000 to support projects at 80 per cent full economic costs. Funding also covers travel and subsistence costs to attend at least one UK Energy System programme event.
