Call summary

The Royal Academy of Engineering, the Royal Society, the Academy of Medical Sciences and the British Academy, through the Global Challenges Research Fund, invite applications for their frontiers follow-on grants. These support collaborative research that tackles international development challenges and enables previously seeded projects to be developed into fully functioning collaborative research projects. The aim is to build on, and scale up successes from the UK national academies’ early- and mid-career research programmes funded by the GCRF. Grants are worth up to £100,000 per year for one to three years.

PI eligibility

The PI must be within 20 years of finishing their PhD and based at a UK HEI. This programme is aimed at early- and mid-career researchers who have been named as the principal investigator or collaborator on one of the following schemes: •frontiers of engineering for development, and frontiers of development seed funding by Royal Academy of Engineering; •engineering for Development Research Fellowships by the Royal Academy of Engineering; •FLAIR fellowships by the Royal Society; •challenge-led grants by the Royal Society; •cities and infrastructure programme by the British Academy; •networking grants by the Academy of Medical Sciences.
