Call summary

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and the Medical Research Council invite expressions of interest for their building responsible neurotechnology research capability call. This supports the development of a research network for neurotechnology. The network should help to form new interdisciplinary research communities, promote responsible research and address ethical issues in neurotechnology, set a collaborative research agenda and fund small feasibility studies. It may involve research in the fields of engineering, physical sciences, information and communications technologies and mathematical sciences, with a particular focus on activities which target health needs. Funding is worth up to £6 million to cover up to 80 per cent of the full economic cost. The maximum duration of the network is three years.

PI eligibility

Proposals may include up to five investigators, of whom one is the principal investigator. They must be resident in the UK and may be based at UK higher education institutions, research council institutes, UKRI-approved independent research organisations, public sector research establishments or NHS bodies with research capacity. They must hold a fixed-term contract at their institution that extends beyond the duration of the proposed project, be employed at a level equivalent to lecturer or above, hold an EPSRC, Royal Society or Royal Academy of Engineering fellowship aimed at later career stages, or hold fellowships under other schemes. Holders of postdoctoral level fellowships are not eligible.
