Call summary

Innovate UK, within the framework of the transforming foundation industries challenge fund, invites applications for its transforming foundation industry – small scale research and development call. This supports research projects addressing the resource productivity or energy performance opportunities of the foundation industry sector and its supply chains. The overall aim is to improve the competitiveness of the UK’s foundation industry sector by helping it to become more environmentally sustainable. The total budget is £1.5 million. Funding covers up to 70 per cent of eligible costs depending on the type of activity and type of organisation involved.

Scientific scope

Eligible themes include energy costs and optimisation, process measurement, optimisation and digitisation, and waste recycling, utilisation and symbiosis. Proposals should focus on the development of new markets, business models, products, services or processes. There are two funding strands available: •strand 1 – for projects with total eligible costs of between £25,000 and £75,000; •strand 2 – for projects with total eligible costs of between £75,000 and £250,000.

PI eligibility

The lead applicant must be a UK registered SME business. Lead applicants may partner with UK-based businesses, academic institutions, charities, non-profit organisations, public sector organisations or research and technology organisations. Non-UK organisations may participate but may not receive funding.
