Call summary

Innovate UK, on behalf of the London Fire Brigade and through the Knowledge Transfer Network’s Innovation Exchange, invites proposals for their zero emission pumping power for emergency vehicles call. This supports ideas and solutions that can help supply power sources to generate and access power for the zero emission pumping appliance at incident sites. Proposals for existing market-ready technologies, development based on existing competencies, post-TRL 5 academic projects, and established solutions from other sectors of industry which can be adapted for this application are accepted.

Scientific scope

Power & Energy Systems Engineering; Sustainable Development & Resource Use. Solutions that could provide all or some of the following are welcomed: •reduce the energy requirements of appliances, particularly the demanding ancillary load; •increase the output or efficiencies of the auxiliary pump; •maximises energy storage but minimises space requirements – this ensures appliances can stow the full range of equipment meet the performance requirements; •opportunities for vehicle to vehicle charging.

PI eligibility

Established businesses, startups, SMEs or individual entrepreneurs from a relevant sector, including automotive, rail, power electronics, aerospace, marine engineering, construction, and energy and infrastructure may apply. Applicants must be UK based or have the intention to set up a UK base. Winning solutions will be given an opportunity to present their solutions to a panel including London Fire Brigade with the opportunity to further engage with LFB via suitable grants or commercial arrangements.
