Call summary
The British Council invites applications for its COP26 trilateral research initiative. This supports trilateral collaborative research partnerships between institutions in the UK, Japan and one or more the Association of Southeast Asian Nations countries or territories focused on key climate change and environmental issues facing ASEAN member countries. Grants worth up to £50,000 each, are available for projects that must be completed by 31 March 2022. They may cover staff costs, essential equipment, travel, costs of meetings, seminars and training events and publication costs.

PI eligibility
The proposal must include one or more partners from the UK, Japan and at least one official development assistance eligible country which is also a member of ASEAN. The proposal must name one lead institution from either the UK or Japan which will receive the grant on behalf of the project team. It must include one PI from the UK, one PI from Japan and one PI from an ODA-eligible country or territory in ASEAN. Principal applicants must be permanent employees of a not-for-profit HEI in the UK, Japan and in the ODA-eligible partner country. The outputs and impact of this research initiative must be delivered in the partner designated ODA-eligible ASEAN country or countries to qualify for the funding. Elements of the project can be conducted in UK and Japan, such as development workshops.
