Wellcome: Technology development grants

Wellcome invites applications for its technology resource grants. These support researchers who want to develop new technologies and tools or substantially enhance existing ones to enable new research and benefit the wider scientific community. Grants are worth up to £1.5 million for up to five years, however larger proposals may be considered. Eligible expenses include staff expenses, materials and consumables, animals, equipment, access charges and travel and subsistence. Applicants must outline: •the needs and size of the relevant research community; •the potential impact and importance of the biomedical resource or technology development or tool; •how innovative the proposed technology or tool is; •how the proposed resource or technology will complement any existing collections or technologies to enable new research; •how the resource will be promoted or disseminated.

Lead applicants must be based in the UK or an LMIC, excluding India and mainland China. Co-applicants can be based in the same or different countries anywhere in the world apart from mainland China. Applicants, and any co-applicants, must have an academic or research post or equivalent at an eligible host organisation. They must have, or be guaranteed, a permanent, open-ended or long-term rolling contract with a salary paid by the host organisation. They should also have a track record in obtaining grant funding.
