Call summary

Wellcome invites applications for its innovator awards. These support researchers who are transforming ideas into healthcare innovations that could have a significant impact on human health. Research may be in any scientific discipline, including those outside the life sciences. Awards are worth up to £500,000 for up to two years, or up to £750,000 for up to three years for multidisciplinary collaborations. Funding may cover staff costs, materials and consumables, animals, access charges, research management and support costs, travel and subsistence, and other costs.

Scientific scope

Medical Informatics; Biomedical Engineering, including: •therapeutics; •vaccines; •devices; •diagnostics; •digital technologies; •regenerative medicine.

PI eligibility

Individuals and teams from not-for-profit organisations and commercial organisations of any size and based anywhere in the world, except mainland China, may apply. Proposals from multidisciplinary collaborations within or between organisations are particularly encouraged, and do not need to include life science researchers. Collaborations must include researchers from at least two different scientific disciplines, at least one researcher from a discipline outside the life sciences, and describe the added value of the collaboration. Partnerships between non-profit and commercial organisations are also encouraged. Commercial organisations are expected to provide in-kind contributions to funding in these cases.
