Call summary

The Science and Technology Facilities Council, under its projects peer review panel, invites statements of interest for its large projects call. This supports projects that have a significant scientific priority in particle physics, nuclear physics, astronomy, particle astrophysics, accelerator and solar system science.

Scientific scope

The activities may include: •participation in new experiments or missions; •further development of existing high priority experiments or missions; •development of new instruments; •new detectors or accelerator technologies; •upgrades to existing detectors; •purchase of new, or upgrades to, existing major high performance computing facilities; •new initiatives in the field of e-science, modelling and data management.

PI eligibility

Applicants must be employed as academic members of staff, lecturers or equivalent, or hold a fellowship won through open competition at a UK HEI, a research council institute or an eligible independent research organisation. In exceptional cases, senior postdoctoral research assistants of applicants with sufficient experience and qualification may also be eligible. Applicants must be either resident in the UK or employed by an overseas research organisation approved by the STFC to be eligible to apply. If the applicant is not employed by the organisation submitting the proposal, they must have have written arrangement from the organisation confirming that they may carry out research there. Postdoctoral research assistants located at the same organisation as the PI may be identified as co-applicants, and they must be working on the grant for at least 50 per cent of their contracted hours.
