Call summary
The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council and the US National Science Foundation’s Directorate for Biological Sciences invite expressions of interest for their lead agency opportunity. This encourages collaboration between US and UK research communities and sets out the principles by which jointly supported activities might be developed. Up to £1.6 million at 80 per cent full economic costs can be requested for proposals submitted to BBSRC’s responsive mode mechanism. Funding for activities undertaken by US partners will be met solely by the NSF.
Scientific scope
Collaborative proposals should address the following priority areas:
•biological informatics, including the development of novel informatics approaches and cyberinfrastructure resources to enable novel and effective use of data in biological research;
•microbes and the host immune system, to answer important questions relating to the immune system and host-microbe interactions;
•quantum biology, to investigate the biological molecules and biomolecular systems that give rise to quantum mechanical effects in living organisms;
•synthetic approaches to address fundamental biological questions.
PI eligibility
Proposals must address the priorities of both BBSRC and participating NSF/BIO divisions. UK applicants must be eligible for standard BBSRC mode funding. US applicants must be eligible for NSF funding.
