Call summary
The Natural Environment Research Council invites applications for its independent research fellowships. These aim to develop scientific leadership among early-career environmental scientists, by giving them five years’ support for developing their research programmes and to gain international recognition. There are no funding limits. Applications generally request £500,000 total funding although this varies between research areas and according to the research objectives of the fellowship proposal. No equipment costing more than £10,000 may be requested.

PI eligibility
The fellowships are open to researchers of any nationality, and may be held in any area of NERC remit, but the fellowship must be based at an eligible UK research organisation. Applicants that have not yet completed their doctorate are expected to have submitted their thesis before the fellowship interview takes place. They must have a maximum of eight years of full-time postdoctoral research experience.
