Call summary
The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, through the Manufacturing the Future theme, invites proposals for its responsive manufacturing outline call. This supports research into technologies and processes which support a responsive manufacturing system and the design or operation of such a system. The total budget is £7 million to fund a portfolio of research projects.
Scientific scope
A responsive manufacturing system is envisaged as any current or future manufacturing system that can respond autonomously to emergent changes in a part of the system, such as:
•supply chain disruption or changes in feedstock availability;
•changes in workforce availability;
•changes in output requirements;
•uncertainty or error in one part of the manufacturing system.
