Call summary

The British Council, under the Newton Fund, invites applications for the institutional links grants – UK, Mexico. These enable partners in the UK and Mexico to collaborate internationally and gain access to new research environments, facilities, knowledge and expertise in order to enhance the quality of their research and enable them to translate research and innovation into economic and societal benefit. Grants range from £50,000 to £150,000, with additional funding provided by the partner country co-funders. Projects may over two years.

Scientific scope

Proposals should address the following priority sectors: synchrotron light source; earth science; health; energy; biotechnology; agriculture-food; data science; 3D & additive manufacturing; geotourism; information and communication technologies; artificial intelligence; entrepreneurship and innovation; intellectual property; bioeconomics; health and biomedical technologies for detection, mitigation and prevention of COVID-19; smart cities; materials design and development; urban infrastructure; biofuels; electromobility; water disaster response; industry 4.0; biomedical technologies; open innovation and public policy for technological innovation; aerospace; automotive; climate Change; energy; logistics; mining; chemistry; tourism.

PI eligibility

Each proposal must have one principal applicant from the UK and one from Mexico. Both principal applicants must be leading or established researchers and permanent employees of a non-profit HEI or researcher organisation, a UK HEI or a catapult centre.
