Call summary

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, on behalf of UK Research and Innovation, invites proposals for its new horizons call. This supports transformative research projects across mathematics and physical sciences. The total budget is £10 million. Grants are worth up to £200,000 at 80 per cent full economic costs over 24 months.

Scientific scope

Proposals are welcomed in the following broad areas: •novel physical sciences research aimed at new approaches for understanding fundamental physics, chemistry and materials science, the creation of new experimental approaches and the discovery of new molecules and materials; •novel advances in mathematical sciences research across the breadth of pure and applied mathematics as well as in statistics and operational research.

PI eligibility

The PI must be based at a UK HEI, independent research organisation, government-funded organisation, university unit, MRC unit or institute, or the Frances Crick institute. Researchers from overseas research organisations may apply as a co-investigator if they provide expertise not available in the UK. Applications may involve either single or multiple applicants and interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary collaborative research is permissible.
