Call summary

The British Council, in partnership with UK Research and Innovation, the British Academy, the Academy of Medical Sciences, the Royal Society and the Royal Academy of Engineering, via the Newton Fund, invites applications for the Newton Fund impact scheme. Joint grants are worth up to £360,000 each for up to two years. Grants for a UK component are worth up to £160,00 each. For non-profit research organisations and research institutions, eligible costs are provided at 80 per cent of full economic costs. For business-led applications, eligible costs are funded at between 100 per cent and 25 per cent based on the business size and the type of project.

PI eligibility

Each proposal must have one project leader from the UK and one from the partner country who should be the leader of the previous project. They must be employed by and have a contract that extends beyond the period of the grant at a non-profit HEI, a UK HEI that receives funding from one of the UK higher education funding bodies or a non-profit research organisation. Businesses may lead and submit applications themselves. Organisations affiliated with HEIs in the UK or any other country and based in the partner country are not eligible.
