Call summary

The Ministry of Defence, under the Defence and Security Accelerator programme and in partnership with Innovate UK, invites proposals for its rapid impact innovation call. This supports defence and security innovation projects, which have a realistic prospect of achieving an impact within a three-year time frame from the commencement of the project. No funding limit is specified, however grants are typically worth between £100,000 and £350,000.

Scientific scope

Whilst proposals may address any topic that is of relevance to the defence and security sector, the call also has the following innovation focus areas: •COVID-19 - rapid sanitising technology; •reduced-burden area biosurveillance; •detecting firearms and ammunition through scent; •next generation aviation security; •innovative security features for bank notes – DASA terms and conditions do not apply, and direct contracts will be negotiated with the Bank of England; •advancing less-lethal weapon capability; •assistive techonology for rail staff; •screening train carriages.

PI eligibility

Applications are open to all organisation types and individuals. There are no nationality restrictions. Proposals are accepted from the private sector, academia and individuals in the UK or overseas. Collaborations are particularly encouraged.
