Call summary
The US Department of Defense, under its microsystems exploration programme, invites applications for its gain enhancement by novel impact ionisation (GENII) opportunity. This supports basic or applied research concepts in the technical domain of design, modelling and device demonstration of high gain, low noise avalanche photodiodes. The aim is to identify, develop and demonstrate new approaches to achieve low excess noise and high gain infrared linear mode avalanche photodiodes. Grants are worth up to USD 725,000 over 12 months for phase one and up to USD 275,000 over six months for phase two.
Scientific scope
Military Technology; Photonics & Optical Communication; Electrical & Electronic Engineering; Lasers & Quantum Optics
PI eligibility
All responsible sources capable of satisfying the Government's needs may submit a proposal. Non-US organisations and individuals may participate to the extent that such participants comply with any necessary nondisclosure agreements, security regulations, export control laws and other governing statutes applicable under the circumstances.
