Call summary

The UKRI and the UK research councils invite applications for the centres for Doctoral Training in artificial intelligence call. This supports a centre for doctoral training (CDT) within priority areas across the remit of UKRI addressing UK training needs in the applications and implications of novel and existing artificial intelligence technologies. CDTs will train 5 cohorts of students doing a four-year doctorate or equivalent.

Scientific scope

CDTs should focus on AI applied and applicable in at least 1 of the priority areas: -science and research; -health; -environment and energy; -sustainable agriculture and food; -defence and security; -creative industries; -responsible and trustworthy AI; -AI for increasing business productivity; -application of AI to government policy and public services.

PI eligibility

Applications are invited from eligible organisations that can demonstrate the ability to host a CDT in areas of AI. Applications must be led by a research degree awarding body. Applications are welcomed equally from both single and multi-institutional teams in collaboration with non-academic project partners. Applications to refresh existing CDTs are welcomed as well as applications to support new ones. The principal investigator must be from the lead organisation for the application and follow UKRI’s rules for eligibility. Organisations may submit a maximum of 2 outline applications to this funding opportunity as lead organisation.
