Call summary

These enable postdoctoral scientists who have shown promise and capacity to produce original research in both pure and applied physical sciences to carry out research at a host institution in the US. The subject areas eligible are defined broadly to include all areas of the physical sciences and mathematics, as well as their interfaces with the life sciences. The English-Speaking Union and Lindemann Trust offer up to three two-year grants a year, each worth $65,000 per annum. They also offer a £1,000 grant to each fellow to assist with travel costs.

Career stages Early Career and Emerging in Field Eligibility Note To be eligible to apply, candidates must meet all of the following criteria: • Hold British, Irish or Commonwealth citizenship, or have UK settled status • Be normally resident in the UK • Either be in the final year of their doctoral studies at a UK university, or have completed their doctorate at a UK university and have no more than a total of three years’ research experience since completion. Fellowships may not be held concurrently with any other research grant or scholarship. Applications from candidates who currently hold, or have held, a full-time stipendiary research post within the last year at an institution in the US will not be considered. In addition, the Trust will also not normally consider an application that is intended to extend the funding of a prearranged research position in the US; nor will it normally consider applications relating to the relocation to the US of an existing, formal research relationship.
