Call summary
The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) invites applications for its independent research fellowships. These aim to develop scientific leadership among early-career environmental scientists, by giving them five years' support for developing their research programmes. The total budget is £7.2 million. The fellowship maybe be at a full time or part time basis. NERC will fund fellowships at 80 per cent of full economic cost. Funding may cover facilities costs and cruise costs. NERC currently awards approximately 14 IRFs each year. The fellowship will last five years. Up to two years can be spent at a collaborative institution in the UK or overseas.
Scientific scope
Applications from any area of NERC’s remit are welcomed.
PI eligibility
Eligibility Note The fellowships are open to researchers of any nationality, but the fellowship must be submitted through and held at a NERC eligible UK research organisation. Applicants are expected to hold a PhD and those that have not yet completed their PhD are expected to have submitted their thesis before the fellowship interview takes place. They may have no more than eight years of full-time postdoctoral research experience.
