Call summary

From May 2023 you must apply to the EPSRC responsive mode discipline hopping in information and communications technology (ICT) funding opportunity via the Funding Service. You may either: - have a background in ICT and propose to use your research skills in a new discipline - have other expertise and wish to learn ICT research skills and apply them in your home discipline. You must be ‘hopping’ into or from one of the ICT research areas covered by this funding opportunity. We will award 80% of the full economic cost (FEC) of the project.

Scientific scope

This is an opportunity for ICT researchers to use their expertise in other disciplines, or for researchers from other fields to apply their expertise to ICT. You can apply for a discipline-hopping in ICT grant in any field of research relevant to the UK Research and Innovation remit. To be eligible to apply for funding through this funding opportunity, you must be ‘hopping’ into or from one of the ICT research areas covered by this funding opportunity.

PI eligibility

Investigators must be academic employees – lecturer or equivalent – of an eligible organisation and must be resident in the UK, except under specific conditions, set out in the co-investigator section. Any fellows holding fellowships aimed primarily at the postdoctoral level are not eligible to apply. Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) fellows, Royal Society fellows and Royal Academy of Engineering fellows holding fellowships aimed at later career stages are eligible to apply. Holders of fellowships under other schemes should contact the EPSRC to establish eligibility. This may be given on an individual case by case basis rather than as blanket eligibility for all fellows under any scheme.
