Call summary

The Science and Technology Facilities Council invites proposals for its Distributed Research utilising Advanced Computing (DiRAC) - computational resources call. This enables UK astronomy, cosmology, particle physics, astrophysics and nuclear physics communities to access computational resources on the high performance computing STFC DiRAC facility. The following categories of proposals are considered: •short projects - self-contained research problem typically lasting three to six months and up to a maximum of one year, including proposals intended to develop exploratory studies by new users of DiRAC; •thematic projects - a clearly defined research programme requiring significant high performance computing resources for between 12 and 36 months, with the expectation of making step changes in knowledge through the use of DiRAC by research teams or multiple institutions; •research software engineering support - improvement and development of software for the DiRAC community, for a duration of three to 12 months.

Scientific scope

Cosmology & Extragalactic Astronomy; High Energy Astrophysics & Cosmic Rays; Nuclear Physics; Particle Physics; Supercomputers

PI eligibility

PIs must be academic members of staff, either resident in the UK or be employed by an eligible overseas organisation, including HEIs, research council institutes and independent research organisations.
