Call summary

UKRI, in association with a total of seven research councils, invites applications for its ageing research development awards. These support the development of tractable areas of interdisciplinary research to secure better health and wellbeing for individuals as they age. Funding is worth up to £400,000 for up to 24 months. UKRI will fund 80% of the full economic cost.

Scientific scope

Proposals that seek to address a biomedical question, or are linked to the ageing across the lifecourse interdisciplinary research networks are welcomed, but this will not be a pre-requisite for funding. Recognising the interdisciplinary nature of the challenge, UKRI strongly encourages the formation of interdisciplinary teams to maximise potential impact.

PI eligibility

Lead applicants must be a researcher based in the UK and be employed by an eligible research organisation or be based in an overseas MRC unit, and usually have at least a postgraduate degree and ideally a PhD or equivalent. One principal investigator must act as the project lead. The inclusion of one or more UK-based co-investigators is encouraged to facilitate interdisciplinary research. International co-investigators may be included if they provide expertise not available in the UK.
