Call summary

The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, under the High Value Biorenewables Network’s flexible fund, invites applications for its proof of concept projects call. This supports projects focusing on industrial biotechnology with a technology readiness level between 1 and 4. Collaborative, cross-disciplinary projects are encouraged. Projects that focus on producing or testing animal feed are not within scope, nor are projects focussing on a single human disease or projects that simply use plant or biological extracts. The total budget is £1.41 million. Funding is worth up to £40,000 at 80 per cent full economic cost. Projects may last for up to 12 months. Projects should have some financial support from industry, this can be a cash contribution or in-kind funding.

PI eligibility

HVB members who are eligible to receive BBSRC funding may apply. Post-doctoral research associates who are involved in developing an application and who will be engaged in the research can be named as a researcher co-investigator on the application. Projects are expected to include an industrial partner, however applications without an industrial partner will be considered.
