EPSRC: Civil nuclear research with Japan

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council and the Japanese Ministry of Education, Sport, Culture and Technology (MEXT) invite proposals for the phase 9 of their UK Japan civil nuclear research programme. This supports projects covering key research challenges that accelerate and advance nuclear science, including decommissioning relevant to Fukushima and Sellafield. Up to £1 million is available to support the UK components of two projects. Grants are worth between £250,000 and £500,000 each. MEXT funds the Japan component of the project. Applications must be collaborative between UK-based researchers and Japan-based researchers. Investigators from the UK must be resident in the UK and meet at least one of the following criteria: employed at the submitting research organisation at lecturer level or equivalent; hold a fixed-term contract that extends beyond the duration of the proposed project, and the host research organisation is prepared to give them all the support normal for a permanent employee; hold an EPSRC, Royal Society or Royal Academy of Engineering fellowship aimed at later career stages; hold fellowships under other schemes. Research grants are open to UK HEIs, research council institutes, UKRI-approved independent research organisations, public sector research establishments and NHS bodies with research capacity.
