Call summary

The Science and Technology Facilities Council and the UK Space Agency invites applications for its Set up a rocketry research, training and teaching hub call. This supports the academic sector to develop rocketry PhDs as part of the R2T2 hub. The aim is to deliver PhDs with both academic and skills-based elements, providing students with the opportunity to participate in the practical aspects of rocketry and spend time in industry. Up to 10 hubs will receive funding. Funding will cover the full life-cost of the PhD, including tuition fees, annual stipend, and bench fees. The cost of consumables, at £90,000 per student, will also be covered to provide the students with the necessary funds to build their PhD projects.

PI eligibility

UK academic institutions who are eligible for STFC funding and who have rocketry programmes or having the necessary resources and expertise to deliver rocketry PhDs may apply. Academic institutions may apply individually or as part of a group. Institutions will need to demonstrate existing industry engagement and private sector support, supporting them in providing students with industry experience and practical skills. Non-UK organisations are not eligible to apply.
