Call summary

The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council invites applications for its research in cognitive computational neuroscience call. The total budget is £2 million. The full economic cost may be up to £200,000. BBSRC will fund up to 80 per cent of the full economic cost. Project may last for up to two years.

Scientific scope

This supports interdisciplinary collaborations that integrate an understanding of neuroscience and cognition with artificial intelligence. Successful projects will be co-designed from the outset, and should focus on one of the following challenge areas: •developing and applying advanced computational approaches to elucidate neural and behavioural datasets, furthering our understanding of the mechanisms underlying cognitive function and behaviour; •utilising neural and behavioural datasets to test a specific computational question or to inform or validate areas of interest to AI development.

PI eligibility

Applicants from eligible UK-based organisations may apply. Institutions and researchers normally eligible for UKRI funding include HEIs, eligible independent research organisations, public sector research establishments and UKRI funded labs and facilities. Research groups that merge a range of talent spanning the relevant disciplines within the scope of the opportunity and the project in question and from different career stages and pathways and a cultural diversity of stakeholders and researchers with novel perspectives are encouraged to apply. It is also encouraged for applications to have up to two named principal investigators, who should have equal leadership status on the project.
