Call summary
The Royal Academy of Engineering invites applications for its enterprise fellowships. These support entrepreneurial engineers who have who have an impactful innovation ready to commercialise at the seed or pre-seed stage. The programme focuses on equipping the awardee with the confidence, skills, experience and networks they need to bring their engineering product to market. Funding is available for researchers wishing to spin out a company from a university, recent graduates wishing to create a company, and international PhD students based in the UK, wishing to spin out or start up. Each fellowship is worth up to £75,000 for one year.

PI eligibility
Researchers must be based at a UK HEI or research institute in an engineering department or engineering-focused research area and hold a PhD or equivalent experience. PhD students must receive their degree before the start of the fellowship. All levels of academic and researcher are eligible. The lead applicant must not be less than 50 per cent full time equivalent. Recent graduates must be based in the UK and be currently studying for, or have been awarded their first degree after 1 January 2017, which must be in engineering, design, IT or a related discipline. Undergraduate students must receive their degree before the start of the fellowship. They cannot be employed by a university or well-established company during the award period. International PhD students must be non-UK citizens studying at a UK university or research institute and receive their degree between 1 January 2020 and 1 May 2022.
