Call summary

Innovate UK invites applications for its innovation collaborative research and development grants, under the Faraday battery challenge. These support the research and development of the most promising innovative battery technologies for the propulsion of electric vehicles in the automotive sector. The aim of the competition is to support business-led research and development of sustainable propulsion batteries, support technologies with the potential to enter the automotive market within the next ten years, move UK battery innovations from technological potential towards commercial capability and develop and secure material and manufacturing supply chains for battery technologies in the UK. The total budget is £23 million. The total costs of the project must be between £500,000 and £12m. Funding amount depends on the size of the organisation.

PI eligibility

UK registered businesses of any size may apply as project leader. Businesses may collaborate with either other UK registered businesses, academic institutions, charities, not for profits, public sector organisations or research and technology organisations. The project must intend to exploit the results and be carried out in the UK.
