Call summary

The Royal Society invites applications for its research professorships. These provide long-term support to world-class scientists, enabling them to be relieved from teaching and administration duties in order to focus on research. Professorships are tenable for up to 10 years and cover salary costs of £84,009 per year and research expenses. Research expenses are covered at 100 per cent of the full economic costs and staff costs at 80 per cent of the full economic costs.

Scientific scope

Two types of professorships are available: •up to six professorships supporting research in any of the natural sciences, including biological research, chemistry, engineering, mathematics and physics but excluding clinical medicine; •one Noreen Murray research professorship supporting research specifically in neurobiology.

PI eligibility

Applicants may be of any nationality and applications from scientists currently residing outside of the UK are particularly welcomed. Awards must be held at a UK university or non-profit research institute. The host organisation will be required to provide assurance that the award will provide support for a new post and will be in addition to any existing posts. Underrepresented groups are particularly encouraged to apply.
