Call summary
The Royal Society invites applications for its research grants. These provide seed-corn funding for scientists in the UK who are at an early stage in their career, or returning from a career break. and want to purchase specialised equipment and consumables. The aim is to to increase the availability of specialised equipment and essential consumable materials, and to support essential field research. Grants are worth up to £20,000 each over one year and may be used for specialised equipment, consumables, and travel and subsistence costs for field research.
Scientific scope
This scheme covers natural sciences, including biological research, chemistry, engineering, mathematics and physics, but excluding clinical medicine.
PI eligibility
Applicants must be a UK resident holding a PhD or equivalent position, be based at an eligible UK organisation and be within the first five consecutive years of their first permanent independent academic research post or a named limited-tenured or fixed-term academic research post obtained in open competition. They must be fully independent researchers with access to their own lab space and with the ability to recruit and to be registered as the primary supervisor of PhD students and research assistants. Independent researchers who have recently returned to academia within six months of applying, following a career break from research, may also apply.
