Call summary

Innovate UK, under the Advanced Propulsion Centre, invites applications for its competition to develop automotive technologies and growing capability towards net zero. This aims to support the UK’s transition towards net zero product manufacturing and supply chain in the UK automotive sector. The focus is on collaborative, pre-production R&D projects that support the UK’s long-term capabilities through securing investments, and can be achieved through its associated supply chain in the design, build and manufacture of zero carbon tailpipe emission vehicles. The budget is £25 million. Total eligible project costs must be between £5m and £40m and be a minimum of 50 per cent co-funded.

Scientific scope

Projects must advance technologies in: •battery cell components or systems; •fuel cell and associated balance of plant; •electric machines and power electronics: •fossil-free fuel internal combustion: •hydrogen storage and management systems: •recycling or recovering materials from any of the above: •digitalisation leveraged during the development, production or in-service phases.

PI eligibility

Project leads must be businesses of any size registered in the UK. Other consortia partners must include at least one SME and one vehicle manufacturer or tier one supplier. Projects must be carried out in the UK and exploit their results in the UK. A maximum of six project partners is suggested.
