Call summary

IBioIC, in partnership with the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, invites entries for its call for projects under the collaborative training partnership PhD programme. This supports industrially relevant PhD projects that bring biotechnology closer to industrialisation. Funding is worth up to £105,591 per studentship. Two funded studentships are available.

Scientific scope

Projects must focus on one or more of the following themes: •sustainable feedstocks; •enzymes and biocatalysis or biotransformation; •cell factory construction and process physiology; •downstream processing; •integrated bioprocessing. Projects must demonstrate industrial relevance by the innovative use or application of biotechnology.

PI eligibility

Projects must be championed and led by an IBioIC HEI partner and supported by at least one industrial partner. If any of the industrial partners are not members of IBioIC at the time application, all must become members before funding is awarded. The industrial partner must commit to providing a three- to 12-month industrial placement directly relevant to the PhD project. Evidence of additional funding from the industrial partner is required.
