Call summary

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) invite applications for its high-risk speculative research ideas in engineering and ICT call. This supports new research ideas that are speculative, high risk, with potential for a high reward. Projects must be within EPSRC’s remit of engineering or ICT. The total budget is £10 million. The full economic cost of the project may be up to £250,000 and last up to two years. Funding is worth up to 80 per cent of the full economic cost.

PI eligibility

Applicants must be a UK resident and based at an eligible research organisation. The PI should be employed at the submitting research organisation at a level equivalent to lecturer or above, hold a fixed-term contract that extends beyond the duration of the proposed project, and the host research organisation is prepared to give all the support normal for a permanent employee, hold an EPSRC, Royal Society or Royal Academy of Engineering fellowship aimed at later career stages or hold fellowships under other schemes. The submitting organisation may be a UK HEI, research council institute, UKRI-approved independent research organisation, eligible public sector research establishment or NHS body with research capacity. Applicants may submit one applications as PI or co-investigator.
