Call summary
The Medical Research Council invites applications for its molecular and cellular medicine research grants. These support focused research projects that may be short or long-term in nature. In addition, they can be used to support method development and continuation of research facilities and may involve more than one research group or institution. Grants can be awarded for up to five years. The budget for research grant awards will not typically exceed £1 million. Funding is usually given on the basis of 80 per cent of full economic costs of the research to the applicant’s institution, covering salaries of the principal investigator and co-investigators, support for additional posts, equipment, travel costs, and data preservation, data sharing and dissemination costs.
Scientific scope
Cytopathology; Cell & Developmental Biology; Biochemistry & Molecular Biology
PI eligibility
Any UK-based researcher who can demonstrate that they will direct the proposed research and be actively engaged in carrying it through may apply. The minimum academic qualification required is a graduate degree, although usually a PhD is required. Applications may include industry partners.
