Call summary
The Medical Research Council invites proposals for its new investigator research grant in molecular and cellular medicine. This supports researchers who are capable of becoming independent principal investigators and who are ready to take the next step towards that goal within the areas of molecular and cellular medicine. Grants are tenable for three years and are usually given on the basis of 80 per cent of full economic costs of the research to the applicant’s institution. Funding may cover the following:
•a contribution to the salary of the principal investigator and co-investigators;
•support for other posts such as research and technical;
•research consumables;
•equipment;
•travel costs;
•data preservation, data sharing and dissemination costs;
•estates and indirect costs.

PI eligibility
Applicants must hold at least a graduate degree, and are usually expected to have a PhD or an MD. The research may be carried out at the UK institution at which the applicant is based or an eligible UK research organisation to which they wish to move.
