Call summary

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, on behalf of UK Research and Innovation, invites applications for its creation of a national research facility for ion beam call. This supports a facility with ion beam capabilities that with funding support, can be developed into a national research facility for ion beam. The facility must provide services that offer associated expertise to support novel research in the engineering, biological and physical sciences. The grant is worth up to £2.4 million for five years. Funding will not cover the full costs of the facility.

PI eligibility

Applicants must be UK residents and either be employed at the submitting research organisation at a level equivalent to lecturer or above, on a fixed-term contract that extends beyond the duration of the proposed project, hold an EPSRC, Royal Society or Royal Academy of Engineering fellowship aimed at later career stages or hold fellowships under other schemes. Holders of postdoctoral level fellowships are not eligible to apply for the grant. Research grants are open to UK HEI, research council institutes, UKRI-approved independent research organisations, public sector research establishments and NHS bodies with research capacity.
