Call summary

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council, the Medical Research Council and the Natural Environment Research Council invites letters of intent for their call to establish a 1.2 GHz nuclear magnetic resonance research facility. This enables institutions to procure, install and operate an ultra-high-field nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer as a national facility in the UK. One grant, worth £17 million for up to five years, is available. Funding covers 100 per cent of the full economic cost. The grant covers costs for the spectrometer itself, a range of probes to cover anticipated usage, small-scale refurbishment for laboratory space and staff costs directly associated with procurement installation and testing of the spectrometer.

Scientific scope

Nuclear Power, Technology & Engineering; Spectrometry; Instrumental Chemistry; Structural Chemistry & Spectroscopy; Radiography

PI eligibility

Applications are open to UK HEIs, research council institutes, UKRI-approved independent research organisations, eligible public sector research establishments and NHS bodies with research capacity. The PI must be resident in the UK and must be either employed at the submitting research organisation at a level equivalent to lecturer or above, or hold a fixed-term contract at the research organisation that extends beyond the duration of the proposed project, and the organisation is prepared to give them all the support normal for a permanent employee.
