Call summary

Innovate UK, within the framework of the small business research initiative, invites applications for its open digital solutions for net zero energy call. This supports the development of open solutions to accelerate decarbonisation of energy in the UK. The total budget is £1.2 million to fund up to four projects. Grants are worth up to £300,000 for up to nine months. Applications must have at least 50 per cent of the contract value attributed directly and exclusively to research and development services, including solution exploration and design.

Scientific scope

Projects must: •develop original open software, hardware or data solutions that accelerate the transition to net zero energy in the UK; •embrace open principles including appropriate open approaches such as the Open Source Definition stewarded by the Open Source Initiative and have suitable open licensing; •actively foster the development of a community to support and adopt the open solution; •include a first user as part of the project; •demonstrate a credible and practical route to industry adoption.

PI eligibility

The lead applicant may be an organisation of any size, and may work alone or with other organisations as subcontractors
